STUPIDS – THE KIDS DON’T LIKE IT ……. CD / LP
The kids might not like it, but I sure as hell do. Quite possibly the come back record of the decade and it makes me feel great that these old guys still kick ass and surpass bands half their age. Totally great ripping tunes, which you would be totally stupid not to like and I can indulge and pretend I’m a young kid too. It includes the “Feel The Suck” 7”, which continues to blow me away – being the fantastic tune that it is. There’s quite an array of sounds going on, savage Agent Orange style melodies (ahem), 80’s styled mayhem done Californian style and plenty of up beat thrashers that are cut up and pasted with a fresh modern vibe that is oozing with life and will make the stiffest person want to jump around. An insight to the trials and tribulations of life which are full of sarcasm, humour and some of the best lyrics they’ve written. A welcome return and done in style, keep it going guys.
STUPIDS - Feel The Suck {Boss Tuneage} This record defies all reason. How a band that redefined UK Punk and Hardcore and which reveled in the irreverent joy of youthful abandon can release its first record in over 20 years and retain the indelible sound it possessed in the 80s, add to it and record what could be its best material to date is beyond me. Yep, LES STOOPS are back with Tommy in the driving seat and Marty Tuff playing guitar with the same urgency he had on ‘Peruvian Vacation’. This three-track, red-marble vinyl 7" is the first fruition of their reuniting with a lead track that could easily have fitted on 'Jesus Meets...', while the flip sees two faster, thrashier numbers akin to the band’s earlier records. Of the three tracks, only ‘Rock Gods’ doesn’t appear on the soon-due album, ‘The Kids Don’t Like It’. It’s no throwaway track; opening with a resounding shower of discordant power chords before sliding into a DCHC-inspired fury and culminating with an almost RITES OF SPRING-esque breakdown. Tommy’s vocals sound great too; the intervening 20 years haven’t made him sound any less bratty, but they have bestowed a depth to his voice that was missing on ‘Retard Picnic’ et al. Great to have you back boys! (14.06.09)

Surely the greatest musical proposition ever to hail from Suffolk – not that The Darkness and Tim Westwood present much of a challenge – John Peel’s favourite skate-punk band return after a twenty-year absence, with tongues still firmly wedged in their collective cheek. Middle Aged Punk is a blast of furious thrash, book-ended by ironic guitar licks and a sarcy reference to Miles Davis, while Drumshop Arsehole is prefaced by the declaration that “there’s no point in changing, because all they want is the same old shit”. However, although these tracks are delivered with a knowing smile, they’re still bursting with metal chuggery and frantic punk riffs, with Sons of the Beach and Charlton Heston being standouts. Even though their time away from noisemaking has seen thrash proliferate into a plethora of sub-genres, The Kids Don’t Like It sounds fresh - the perfect soundtrack for a nostalgic mosh.
